Arctic Skua today in the Channel (1 Viewer)

Is is too late in the year? I had a pretty good sight of it, though I guess it could be a 1st winter Herring gull as they also have a white flash in the primaries, but this was very noticable.
Also saw lots of Gannets, Guillemots, a couple of med gulls, a flock of Red Breasted Mesgansers among the usual suspects.

Its not too late for AS, but perhaps Pomarine Skua is more likely this late in the year

Hi jane, hard one to call, sort of assumed it would be an AS as they are more common. It was certainly a skua, and either would be a life tick for me!

I watched an Arctic Skua on the Suffolk coast yesterday, and I too thought it was quite a late record. A dark phase juvenile, chasing Gulls for around half an hour. Great to watch, doubt the Gulls were too happy with its stay mind you.

Thought about Great Skua ? I know it doesn't really fit in with your description and you said you had good views but there are still a few hanging around at the South Kent coast.
