Hi!

I will move from Sweden to Aberdeen in the middle of January (2014). I have a few questions that i hope someone can answer.

1. Where can I see the latest observations of birds?

2. Where will i post my observations (when I find good bids)?

3. Are the local group of RSPB the only bird organization in Aberdeen?

4. Dos it exist a webpage for micro birding? (year list for Aberdeen/Aberdeen shire etc)

Anders how looking forward to learn more about the Scottish birds?

Hi Anders and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators.

We have some very active Aberdeen/shire birders on here and a few threads that you might want to contribute to in the Scotland forum. Keep an eye open for threads titled Scottish Bash; we're currently trying to organise a meeting at Scone at the end of the month and a few Aberdonians are planning to come: you can find out more in the Scottish Hawfinch Bash thread - I hope you can manage to join us.

Hi Borgehead,

Firstly, welcome to Aberdeen. It's a great area for birding with lots of great places and few enough active birders such that it is easy to find completely unwatched locations, even along the coast.

For hearing about and reporting rare/scarce birds, be sure to sign up to the ABZ Rare Birds Yahoo group (http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/ABZ-Rare-Birds/info). There is also a text system for rare bird news (details at: http://www.abz-text.andywebb.org.uk/). There are other sites that give new summaries (e.g. weekly round-ups at Loch of Strathbeg and individual blogs, etc.) but these are the main local sources for getting news promptly.

As well as RSPB, there is a branch of the Scottish Ornithologists Club in Aberdeen. See: http://www.the-soc.org.uk/whats-on/local-branches-2/grampian/

You might also be interested in getting a copy of the most recent North East Scotland Bird Report to give you an idea of the status of species in the region (the report for 2011 is the latest published). See http://www.the-soc.org.uk/bird-recording/local-recorders-network/north-east-scotland-recording-area/ for details of the report.

Hope this helps

Cheers
Nick
