NJ USA Merganser? (1 Viewer)

I can only see one hooded merganser . The bird in the background is probably a female redhead.

I'd normally trust your opinion over most when it comes to Wildfowl but surely the other bird is a straight forward female Hooded Merganser too?

They are booth Hooded Mergs, but the one in the background has its head turned backwards if you look closely. That is probably what is throwing you off.

Agreed, you can just make out the eye on the right side of the head. You can also see her tail sticking up out of the water. Definitely Hooded Mergansers.
