Spotted this from the road.. couldnt get a closer view (snowbank higher then the car)... was wondering what it was.. we had some snowy owls in the area, but this looks a bit dark for that... thanks for any help in solving this mystery!

It's a grouse species, but I can't get further than that.

oh wow really?? we have sharp tailed mostly around here... a few gray partridge too... would never have guessed.. Thanks!

Sharp-tailed seems like a good bet with those white marks on the leading edge of the primaries. Definitely not a gray.
