I'm not recommending this, but when he was a teenager, my brother constructed a bird feeder made entirely out of poured concrete, the feeding platform, roof and supporting columns all made out of one pour of some special mix of cement into a mold. The thing was interesting but not attractive- for one thing, the four columns supporting the roof were not quite symmetrical... well, he was quite young. It did solve the problem we'd had with squirrels and porcupines chewing up the previous ones. Being about 2 feet on the side it was quite 'weighty' of course, but got put up on a steel pole and served for many years indeed, only succumbing to the cleaning efforts of my mother, who tried to tip it towards her a bit one time, causing it to shatter. Fortunately she was not injured in the disaster. :)
