can this be a (F) or n(J) of a purple grosbeak? USA (1 Viewer)

Beak fits,the tail looks too short for a (F) maybe a (J) 22.8.2017 at bombey hook deleware USA

There is no such thing as a Purple Grosbeak. The bird in question is a House Sparrow. Do you mean a Pine Grosbeak?
 
House sparrow for me too. Perhaps he meant a Blue Grosbeak, Passerina caerulea. I think that would be a plausible target bird at Bombay Hook in August.
