Hi everyone I am new here and havent looked around much but this looks like a very informative and interesting site.
Right now i have 2 Ed50 Staight angled spotters with the 16x wide eyepiece. I know it can be a long shot but anyone have a any idea where i could find the 20x or 27x. 16x just is not quite enough magnification out here in teh wide open. Looking to try my hand at digiscoping and taking pics of the wintering bald eagles here and various other wildlife. If anyone is interested in one of the scopes i will probably be posting it in the classifieds. It is in mint condition in teh package but i dont need two.

I was also wondering what is a good camera adapter for these eyepieces- i have a olympus sz10.

Anyway any help tracking one down would be sure appreciated.

Hello, this may be useful for digiscoping http://www.digiscoping.co.uk/?Cat=Nikon When using the ED50, it is worth bearing in mind that 24x becomes a 16x, 30x becomes a 20x, 40x becomes a 27x and 20-60x becomes a 13-40x. The most popular e/p is the 40x (27x on ED50) http://www.cleyspy.co.uk/nikon-mc-wide-274050-i1979.html though Im sure these are for sale in the states. If you really want 20x, then this http://photoaddict.fr/watching/bosma-30x-wide-mc-oculaire-grand-champ-30x.html is a cheaper alternative to the nikon version, and should fit as it has the same thread.
If you decide to sell your 16x please let me know!

Thanks for the response.

You will have to help me out on the cley spy website what form of money are they dealing with. Any idea how it converts to american dollars?

The link to photoaddict website worked but showed no product. is there any other eyepieces tht fit ed50 to get teh 27x wide view?

Thanks Again

I think your best bet is to find one on the used market. If you were really lucky, you might find one gathering dust on a shelf in a local camera or hunting supply store. Unfortunately, Nikon decided a few years ago to cease supplying body-only Fieldscopes and separate eyepieces to the US market, and I imagine they may only be selling off existing stock at this point in the rest of the world. They still sell the 16/24/30x DS in the USA, but that is the only one, and it seems they are only available for list price ~$270. Weird that when Nikon decided to do away with body-only Fieldscopes and separate eyepieces the prices plummeted on existing stock at that time (e.g. the 16/24/30x DS was widely available for ~$70, as was the 13-40/25-75x zoom for the same price), as if they were trying to clear the shelves for new inventory and phase out the non-EDG Fieldscopes entirely. It seems we still have the scopes, but the eyepieces are basically gone. Very sad.

Yeah i kinda been looking casually for teh last month with not much luck. I have heard of 27x selling for $99 late last year but nothing since. Keeping my eyes open. I had the zoom fieldscope late last year as well and sold it- i didnt mind the zoom but the extra FOV it really nice on teh WA lenses.

You might try Mosquito Creek Outdoors in Apopka, FL. They have an online store and have some additional high-powered eyepieces available. Unfortunately, I am not sure what exactly they have in stock.

There is a Bosma 30x e/p which Im thinking about getting to use with my ED50, not sure if its compatable though...

Do you know of any place that has Bosma/Theron eyepieces for sale separate from their scopes? I haven't found any.

EDIT: Oops, I mean other than the above link for the 30x. Do they make an equivalent to the 27x?

LD,

I haven't seen one here in the states. From talking to the folks at Theron I was under the impression that they couldn't order the eyepieces separately. In hindsight it may have been that they would have had to put in a large order of them and considering the relative lack of interest in the Mag82 they did not think this a wise business decision. It is a bit of a shame though as I find the Mag82 to be all the scope I could ever want or need. It performed flawlessly this past weekend on a trip to a local wildlife preserve for waterfowl. Excellent views...simply excellent.
