Hello, no idea if I'm in the right place but my mum has asked for a pair of Opticron binoculars for her 70th birthday....Countryman BGA 8x42 (not sure what that means).

I'm looking for used / secondhand and have a limited budget...about £150....can anyone help?

Hi there and a warm welcome to you from those of us on staff here at BirdForum :t:

I've moved your thread to the Opticron section of the Binocular section and have subscribed you to the thread so you can keep track of it ;)

The retail price for the Countryman BGA HD 8x42 is £309 so if you only have £150 you will have to buy second hand and even then you'd probably be looking at more than £200 even for one in average condition.

Try these retailers:

https://www.sherwoods-photo.com/ex_demo/ex_demo_optics.htm

However, if your mum has tried a Countryman and likes it, there's not much point in buying something else because it may not suit her - binoculars are a very personal thing, bit like spectacles or a comfortable pair of shoes.

Hope that helps.

Cheers, Pete
