On the strength of some of this advice I am replacing my violin. Clearly the improvement this will bring about will stop the local dogs howling and kids throwing rocks at me.

Iveljay, from what I've read, the new violin won't stop the howling of the dogs, but merely reduce it by about 3%, which some say can't be discerned, and others insist it can, so get some new batteries in your hearing aid, and let us know the results....... so the rest of us can buy one when it goes on sale.
