Hi Everyone

This picture was quite distant and heavily cropped so ID could be unlikely but any suggestions would be appreciated. I could only see the bird in silouhette so thought i'd take a picture of it and ask for opinions here.

It was at the top of a tall, bare tree. There were loads of other birds around, finches, tits etc, a little haven for bird life but i'm not sure what this is and due to the sheer volume of other species i don't know what it sounded like either.

Going solely on the picture, i would say it looks like a tree pipit but having read up on them in the RSPB bird guide, they appear to be summer visitors. Now, although not out of the realms of possibility, i thought this would be unlikely so if you could give me any ideas it would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Not a tree pip. That's a fine but definitely cone shaped seed crunching bill so you're straight into finch/bunting territory. I'd be happy with female siskin.
