Birding holiday in August? (1 Viewer)

Oh, I hear you Steve. But maybe this'll persuade him a bit. How were the accomodations you stayed at?
Also, is it safe to drive about in a rental vehicle?

SAmerica very variable but generally good accomodation available. Driving in Bolivia awful, Brazil not too bad. I did the other countries (and much of Bolivia) by public transport/hitching.

Driving in South Africa not an issue at all - think Europe with less traffic.

If he's worried about health, travel etc this would be my choice. Yes the townships are scary, but you won't be there. I have taken by son three times and my daughter twice. My son was three on our first visit. I wouldn't take risks with them.

Malaysia I have mainly done on public transport - although that'll change next year - but when I did hire a car it was fine. well apart from getting stopped for speeding about an hour after picking it up!
