Not a traditional birding destination, indeed the birding was simply a bonus on this relaxing long weekend. I had hoped to be given permission to spend a morning at the estuary in San Jose del Cabo to hunt down Belding's Yellowthroat. Said permission didn't materialize, but the birding at my hotel was much better than expected thanks to a relatively small piece of intact desert habitat on the property.

We stayed at the very ritzy Esperanza resort.

Beach and ocean

Hotel Grounds

House Sparrow
Gila Woodpecker (L)
White-winged Dove
Xantus's Hummingbird (L)

Hooded Oriole - so many!!

The real treat was the undisturbed area, with a couple of nature walks.

Grey Thrasher (L)
Scott's Oriole (L)
Gilded Flicker (L)
Ladder-backed Woodpecker

Definitely a good spot if you haven't got many of the desert species as I hadn't.
