Keang Krachan National Park (1 Viewer)

It has been reported that there are plans at Kaeng Krachan to pave the road after the river crossings to the top at Phanoen Thung. Consequently this road will be closed for about a year from August, as well as the top campsite.

Thanks a lot for the warning. I hope that the planned work is worthwhile, but it's worrisome because I've been looking into a visit in February '18, and expect to include Kaeng Krachan. I'll have to do some research, but you probably know this: is the avifauna present in this area from the river crossings to Phanoen Thung also found elsewhere in KK, or at other nearby sites?

Thanks,
Steve Greenfield

Yikes, to answer my own question, it looks like the area after the river crossings is key for birds such as Blue-breasted Bee-eater, Orange-breasted Trogon, Blue Pitta, Brown and Great Hornbill, etc... and higher up, at Phanoen Thung, for Red-breasted Bee-eater, Pin-tailed Parrotfinch, White-browed Shrike-Babbler, Ratchet-tailed Treepie, Great Barbet, and others. Is it too extreme to conclude that birders should delay a trip to central Thailand until that roadwork is complete?
