Hi,

Pls help id this raptor spotted yesterday (09-Dec-17) at Pulicat lake, South India. Is it an Indian spotted eagle?

I'm guessing Greater spotted eagle.. Could be Indian but I understand they're almost impossible to indentify ..

if anyone knows about a comprehensive ID paper on Clanga hastata, I would be very interested. That said the OP bird looks less angular and broadwinged than classical GSE and barring is going down (almost) to tip of flight feathers which seems to be good for ISE
Nothing sure though

Edit: the very well visible gape on this individual seems to be another good point for Indian Spotted
