Password page not displaying, Windows 10 (1 Viewer)

Usually when the PC is switched on, a screen comes up showing the date and time. One click then brings up a space in the middle where the password is entered. Recently though, the password screen won't show, locking me out. Any ideas as to get round this?

I don't know if this helps but my mouse has developed a fault so that one press effectively gives two clicks which whips me through two screens.

Thanks for your suggestion, Watts, but it turns out the hard drive has packed up.
