Sabah - climate and getting around (1 Viewer)

Itchy feet
I am planning a trip to SE Asia toward the end of this year/early next year, and I am planning to go to Sabah as well as peninsular Malaysia and Thailand.

Firstly, what is the climate like in December/January time and secondly, how easy is it to get around on public transport e.g. from Kota Kinabalu to Mt Kinabalu, etc?

Cheers

Easy to get a bus to Mt Kinabalu NP from KK. Just go to the bus station in KK the day before and check which bus companies are travelling and at what time.

Statistically Dec/Jan are 2 of the wettest months due to the monsoon, but it varies so much from year to year. It will usually be dry most mornings and then rain in the afternoon at Mt Kinabalu - almost any time of the year.

Hey VB
As John's already said, public transport is pretty reliable and it's easy to get around from the main places on it. If you're going to Mt K, a great place to stay (and alot cheaper than inside) is about 400m further along the road past the entrance gates onn your left. Great place, lovely little old lady runs it (she did our washing and everything!) and it was here I saw a male Jap Thrush (1st for Borneo apparently) in March 06. Also the restaurant opposite the entrance gates is THE place to eat - cheap, great tasting and a bug haven!
If you've got time also go for some R&R down in Semporna and go out to Sipadan Island for some of the most amazing snorkelling I've ever done anywhere! The island also has Nicobar Pigeons too (though I never saw them).
