Hello from West Virginia, USA (1 Viewer)

Hi all. New member, and new to bird watching this year. I've checked out this great forum last spring, and have been wanting to join for a while.

I live at the base of a "mountain" near the edge of the woods, and have a garden area in back that the birds seem to love. I started putting out several types of feeders & water dishes back around Feb/March, and found a few good deals on some used bird books on auction sites, and have since witnessed much drama, many acts of love, and even some acts of violence among the group, as well as many odd little acts that the books talk about.

I have a great angle on the garden out my kitchen window, and have gotten hundreds of great photos (would have been more great if I had a better camera). Hope to share some later, when I find the right section.

Yesterday I saw what I think was an Eastern Towhee for the first time, although I intend to check my other books to confirm that. I can't quite tell if his eye is red. I'm not sure if the hurricanes drove them north, or if they're common up here, but it's the first time I've noticed one.

So, most of my action has been in the back yard, but maybe I can find some local groups or events around my "tri state" area ... WV / OH / PA.

Also: Would someone please let me know if you can access all 4 bird photos in an album at that link, or just the Towhee photo? It's a new image hosting site to me. Thanks!

Yes An Eastern Towhee ;)

Hi there CL and a warm welcome to you from those of us on staff here at BirdForum :t:

We're glad you found us and thanks for taking a moment to say hello. Please join in wherever you like ;)

Hi JT and a warm welcome from me too.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here. I hope to hear about all the birds you see when out and about and will hopefully see some ofyour pictures in the Gallery too. You can either access it through that link, or click on the "gallery" tab in the row at the top of your page.

Hi JT, welcome to the forum. That is definitely an Eastern Towhee, when I go to the link I only see the one bird and there is no way to move to a second.

Welcome to BirdForum! I am sure you will find lots to interest you here, and I hope you enjoy your visits. I can only see one bird too.

Thank you all very much.

And thanks for the info about the image / album. Finally figuring out my new image hosting site.

I have a couple of unidentified birds that I'm going to post to get an ID. I think they're young 'uns, which are the ones I have the most trouble IDing.

JT
