A fossil animal has been discovered in China, which may be the earliest creature on the evolutionary line to birds. It about 160 million years old and has impressions of feathers. Scientists feel that the find will help with understanding how birds emerged from dinosaurs.

It has been given the name Aurornis, which means "dawn bird".
