Andy's field sketches (1 Viewer)

Spizaetos . The Sooty sketch is down to you ! I was impressed with
your work and the Sooty you posted In the Gallery reminded
me of the Bahrain sketches.

Thanks for the compliments.

Andy I have to reply with compliments, and thank you for your comments
regarding Sooty-haven't seen this bird in the wild so I had to work
studying Videos and photographs, to create the picture.
Looking forward to see your next post impatiently....

Taken me all night to read through all the threads I've missed but feel I must comment on this one, back to the Roller and Peregrine pics - absolutely superb Andrew, so much drama beautifullry captured, makes you want to know the outcome. Your field sketching is top class but your finished work is just so different I love it, thanks for posting.

Am feeling a tad unoriginal this evening so I'll be lazy and just wholeheartedly agree with Mouldy!

Hey Deb, don't worry. Just glad you liked them. I need to get some new stuff
on here in the next few day's. I've managed to get out a few times in the last two day's but not had the opportunity to sketch, just take photo's

Went Blackberry picking today with my wife Donna and the kids.
Had a great day, nice picknik. lots of swallows about today and saw a
nice willow warbler real close but could'nt get a pic quick enough.

We picked loads of sloe's today too , not sure wot I'm gonna do
with them LOL:t: Highlight got real close to a young beautifully
marked Buzzard on a telephone pole , gorgeous bird .did get
a few shots of her.

yesterday got some good shots with the camera of more egrets at
Aveton Gifford one of my fav places, but I want to have longer
down there to do some more sketching. So much more fullfilling
to have a few drawings to take home as well.

Chuck 'em next door, perhaps our veritable Landlord can drum up a ginnified concoction for us!

Highly illegal, of course. I couldn't advocate such a flagrant breaking of the rules set by our Majesty's venerable Government - and I'm sure we all drink a nip to that!B :)
Hmmm - that reminds me - I ought to go and check on my "Potatoes".
See you all in a month or so - shluuurrp!

Morning everyone, well had a good day yesterday . I managed to get
out for a bit . I headed back to Aveton where we went blackberry picking
at the weekend. I had a stroll around and saw Two buzzards, group of gold
finches some Pheasants . theres an old tumbled down barn with a spring
that runs down from it through a wooded copse of willow's and fittingly
I saw a Willow Warbler again. May even be the one I saw at the weekend!
As it was only 100 yrds away from that sighting.
I managed to get a little down in the sketch book , But their not the most
static of passerines! very active little fellow , so I finished off the page
at home later from what I could remember.
I suppose he won't be here much longer off to the south.

On down the field the passing a group of gulls following a plough . All Herring gulls.
Mostly Adult and 3rd summer individuals. about two or three Juv and
1st Summer birds. Wish I had taken a photo of the scene really with the
mealae of birds and tracktor but by the time I got the camera out
they were over the brow of the hill and Time was pushing on.
I headed down to the river through the village .

There's a road that is a tidal road that follows the river out to the
estuary but it submerges when the tide comes in . Great place for
watching Egrets various Duck species and other waders. Nothing much
there yesterday but alot of black headed gulls, three Oystercatchers,
one solitary Egret, Two Mute Swans, and a little pied wag which I sketched
as he came real close.
Would have loved to have stayed longer but I had to head back to
the studio.

hope you like the Sketches

I don't like them at all Andrew - I adore them. You really have got something very special and rare when it comes to getting the character just right - so much more than any photograph could get. Fantastic!

Superb again! I notice that many of your birds appear 'eyeless' or have grey eyes. Is there a reason for this. I can't resist shading in a jet black eye with accompanying highlight. Just curious,

Keith.

Oh Dear!!! I'm stuck for words again Andy - after a while, comments like ''brilliant'', ''superb'', ''stunning'', ''masterful'', ''inspired'', just don't cut it after a while (but you know what I mean!)

(oh, I forgot the ''blo*dy jealous'' ;))

After craning my neck to sketch "deformities" that were originally goldcrests and crested tits today, I am in awe of the willow warbler, I also remember having difficulty sketching pied wag, so old wounds opened up! So other than the green with envy and bitterness sort of stuff, I can only say, sheer class!:t::t:

More fantastic work from you Andy. I was surrounded by pied wags (with the odd yellow mixed in) at the weekend. They are one of my favourite birds and your sketches catch their character absolutely. I'm gonna have to get my sketch pad out for the pieds this weekend now for sure!

Well Keith , I just got through most of the treads on here
Takes an age! , and Zac
brought up the same point . I suppose its just down to the pure line
thing. and I feel some times you can suggest more to the mood
of the bird by not filling in the eye completely and concentrate on
the shape of the Eye. their eye's change shape amazingly according
to how the bird is feeling. This isn't to say that I don't fill in
the eye's all the time . Another reason is it sometimes pushes you into
filling more and more detail in and sometimes there is no need
or it is pushed to far and you loose the spontinayity(Errrr Spelling??)
I hope that makes some sence|:S|

Oh ! And thanks everyone for your praise, its really appreciated:t:

Hope you don't mind if I don't comment on your latest sketches Andrew, it's just that I've run out of superlatives.

Well here's yesterday's and today's offerings. just a quick post,
alot to do today:flyaway:
