Hi..I am visiting The Gambia soon and hoping for some advice as to taking either a tripod or a monopod with me, both or neither..... Any opinions ?
I am limited to a Canon 100-400 lens but I've heard the birds are friendly so hoping for some reasonable shots.
Cheers
John

I am not a photographer but I took my scope and tripod with me.Would have been lost without it as I was doing it on my own with no bird guide.
No trouble getting it into my case and hand luggasge.
Having said that the birds are very accessible and all over the place so you will have little trouble getting some good shots.
I spent my time between the Tanji Reserve,Brufut Wood,Sanyang,Abuko and the coast between my hotel[the Sheraton] and Tanji.
Sanyang doesn't appear on the regular itinarary but is excellent. There is a huge lagoon near the fishing area.
Tanji Forest was brilliant too but I saw no other birdwatchers there.
The hotel was as good as anywhere for birds.Over 50 species in the grounds or on the beach nearby!
Have a great time.
