The drake Garganey was showing very well on the west flood at 6pm. In fact,it was one of the closest ducks to the footpath (see photos below).

A supporting cast of 3 Little Egrets, 6 Avocets,a Marsh Harrier, Water Pipit and 2 Yellow Wagtails rounded the evening off very nicely indeed.

I was there early yesterday morning and didn't see it - damn. Still, there was a barn owl.

I shall be there again this morning.

Just returned from an early morning trip to Oare.

Arrived at 6:05 and there was light mist over the floods which was rapidly driven off by the rising sun.

Spent an hour looking for garganey on West Flood - no luck - saw usual supects including blackwit. Proceeded to East Flood. Wheatear viewable from East Hide - not common for Oare.

Arrived at east side of flood and group of small ducks lands in water about 70m away - mostly teal but (to my satisfaction) includes a pair of garganey.

Can go home (visit by relatives for rest of day) happy.
