Tomorrow's Work Party.

Tomorrows work party is the last chance we will have, to shingle the 'pool island' at Amy's Marsh. Thereafter we will NOT be doing any Major work on Amy's. Although the weather has gone cold, many waders will start to breed by the end of March.
We will also be clearing a breeding area for Lapwing around the Broadmeadow and generally tidying up the area.
The work will not be too heavy, but the more the merrier and the more shingle we will move. If there is any shingle left then we will complete it next year.
Hope to see as many as possible tomorrow. meet at car park at Moors 9am should be done by 1pm. I will also bring some squash.
B :)John
weather looks good, the more shingle we move the warmer we get.

For anyone who wonders why the islands have to be shored up after eroding this was the wind/wave action on one today. And the wind though brisk wasn't very strong.

Rob, it looks like the island behind, isn't going to last long. Hopefully by tomorrow dinner time, we will have an island that wont wash away.:t:
see you in the MorningB :)john

Just after one of the snow flurries passed through today, at about 2:30 pm an adult Common Gull was mingling in with the BH Gulls on the Moors.

Great to see Avocets back !! Cracking birds that 35 years ago (when I started birding) would have never been expected to be such a Midlands, let alone UW, regular !!

Was it 35 years ago when you were that 'stupid boy' who could'nt keep still in the back seat of Daves' 'Twitch-Tank';)

How time flies, you low-listing dog....................

LRP Prediction

Did anyone correctly guess yesterday's return date for LRP?

11th March is quite an early date (I believe the joint earliest - matched twice in the past 10 years). The average return date (mean and median) over the past 10 years is 15th March, with a standard deviation of 4.22 days.

Based on this, the probability of yesterdays arrival was about 1 in 6 chance (z = 0.948, Q = 0172).

In hindsight, my own guess (14th March) was a bit on the conservative side.

Don't think anyone did Dave. I had a quick scroll back to February and only about 5 offered an arrival date. Mine was 13th and someone went with 10th, but I think those were the closest.

do you think this will pass its next M O T Paul ?
