The South Downs Way (1 Viewer)

I want to go birding on the South Downs this week-end and was considering the stretch between Seaford and Eastbourne on the South Downs Way, on the bit via Beachey Head.
I was going to take my bike with all my birding gear (scope, tripod etc). Does anyone know if it's too hilly for a reasonably fit 46 year old?

Not sure what to say here. If I say "yes" then it could be taken as an insult. Last time we walked it, I found the "ups" hard, but OK taken slowly, and they're not very big. Could be easier walking than biking actually.
And I will also say the birding is mostly at the western (Cuckmere) end. Good luck, lovely bit of country, hope you enjoy it.

If you're a "reasonably fit" 46 year old, should find it okay, but there do seem to be an awful lot of ups, and not so many downs! Agree with Dave that it might be easier without the bike. Should be stunningly beautiful in this weather.

hmm ... haven't ridden that way for years now . Lovely place

obviously depends on your definition of "reasonably fit" but if you've a semi-decent bike that rolls fairly well, comfortable saddle, set yourself a comfortable pace etc - puncture resistant tyres might be useful too - should be ok i'd have thought.

Watch the midday sun though

there are people who ride the whole thing in a day (not me though !) so what you're suggesting isn't beyond reason

last time I was down that way I spent 8hours trundling around in new boots, ended up with feet resembling a Coots and saw a bloody Whinchat, hope you did better Paul ..
