Insurance could best be described as "a needed evil" but however where do you begin?

the company that I am currently using for my house policy will cover my camera, bins, etc. but will only cover up to £1000 if stolen / damaged whlile in the car.

I am looking for another company possibly a seperate specialist camera insurance company.
Anyone have any ideas or experience that may be of use please?

Thanks

There is a section of the forum dedicated to insurance (!) you might find the info you want there - http://www.birdforum.net/forumdisplay.php?f=478

I have my camera (and optical) gear covered on my home insurance, including cover away from the home and accidental damage. As I always take it with me I didn't even check if it included leaving stuff in the car. I think you'll find that specific photographic insurance is very expensive so if you can get it on home cover it's the way to go.

I was burgled on 25/06/2007 & about £6000 worth of camera gear stolen, I made a claim on my insurance from www.gloverhowe.co.uk and on 14/07/2007 received a cheque for the full replcement value less the excess, I can highly recommend this company through personal experience & have no connection with them whatsoever

This is a dedicated amatuer photo insurance policy & is not cheap but has proved it's worth

I hope this helps

I was quoted over £200 from a specialist company. I ended up adding my gear onto my house contents insurance and this cost me less than £40 for £4500 of cover of gear away from home.

I think you will find that even the specialists put down similar conditions to household policies regarding items being stolen from cars.

Your insurance company should up your single item indemnity (mine is £2500) for minimal cost. If they wont, find another insurance company.
Cheapest way is to add it to your all risks contents. But chose a reputable one.
