48 Slow Worms and 2 Adders in North Kent today at 1 site

Huge numbers, James. We had 12 or so SW at possibly the same site very early yesterday morning - in the cold and rain. Plus a common toad.

At RSPB Dungeness today and yesterday, 4 grass snake a few mins walk from the visitor centre.

6 Wall Lizards and a single Green Lizard at Portman Ravine this morning. Sorry James.

John

Lovely local stuff, Mark. I recognise the bokeh: very local!

Some snaps from the weekend. Slowworm in NW Kent, Smooth Newt and Grass Snake (latter in a field vole nest, I assume) from Dunge. Yellow-bellied Slider from Blackheath, SE London.

Have had the magic eight twice this year. Saw a nice juvenile Green lizard yesterday and a group of 3 (2f 1m). One female looked distinctly gravid already. Reckon she must have hibernated like that.

Fab stuff, esp that group under the tin; though you do have a geographical advantage...

Surprisingly three Grass Snakes seen easily at Little Budworth Country Park, Cheshire despite being only around 10 degrees and raining!

One aesculapian snake along the Regents canal yesterday afternoon being mobbed by magpies and blackbirds, no photos as I didn't have a camera.

Mark

Thinking of going to Regents Canal tomorrow, anyone else going to give it a shot?

If we score early I might go to the Zoo to look for House Mice.

I'm probably going tomorrow week now but it depends on the weather. If it's too hot or too cold might be during the (following) week some time.

Sounds increasingly like a solo trip if I go tomorrow... I might cross my fingers on the weather and go for Honey again tomorrow then.

John

Tried Regents Canal about three times this year without success, although always during trips for other reasons (work, etc.) so always compromised on time and/or weather. Much of the vegetation has been 'strimmed' back.

Hope to get a picture one day.

First day this year spent looking for UK reptiles around East Yorkshire. Managed several Common Lizards and a young female Adder at a well known site in the Vale of York. Moved onto Tophill Low where I was surprised to see as large Grass Snake basking on top of a compost heap. Although I’ve seen countless Grass Snakes on the reserve I’ve never seen them basking in such overcast conditions.

I was in one of the coniferous woodlands in eastern Dorset on Saturday and saw this basking on a path. There are records of sand lizard at that woodland and it looks like the picture in my book - can someone confirm or otherwise?
