Weasel on a green woodpecker in flight (1 Viewer)

It should also there be mentioned that there are actually precedents in the literature for similar behaviors in weasels, which also helps out the story

My first thoughts when I saw the image were not about whether it was fake or not but that I didn't realise there were weasels around Hornchurch. Are they common (or at least not rare) in that area?

Hornchurch Country Park/Ingrebourne Valley used to be my local patch, and weasels were regular if not frequent sightings. Amazing area for wildlife, considering the location.

I think the weasel is trying the back of the head kill tech they always use on birds and rabbits. I dont get why they do this, minks do it also a lot, why not do the throat? maybe because getting to the throat puts them in danger of being stabbed to death. I think that wood pecker can kill that weasel easy also so they go for the back of the head to avoid blows and to be grabbed and kicked by talonns which happens when they make their way to the throat.

Thanks for your explanation. It makes sense.

Now I've shaken that ''Bugger Off''.....I should We-asily make it over the fence!.....sorry I couldn't resist it. ;)
