Welcome to Birdforum, Leonard. I see you've chosen to honor us with a real stickler for your first posting! I'll bet it's likely a Red-shouldered Hawk, based only on abundance and location, but I'll leave the definitive confirmation or refutation to our raptor experts.

Enjoy the forums!

Wow! That was a quick response. Thanks for the info, Charles. I do appreciate it.

I've got one more for you (I promise, just one).

These two were in my backyard mid June. I'm guessing their called "masked" something or other. :)

Any ideas?

Thanks again,

Brian

Yes, Cedar Waxwing, but keep your eye out in the winter for its larger relative, the Bohemian Waxwing, which you may get in your area also-- it's got russet under the tail and white at the bend of the wing.

Hey Brian, do you know that there is another Leonard in NJ who uses the exact same name as your user name. Right down to the 24 Any relation?

Hi KC, not a relation that I know of. There are lots of us though. I guess I have a pretty common name.

As a matter of fact, there was another guy in my school district with the same first, middle and last name and to top it off we were born on the same day in the same hospital.

I know. It sounds unbelievable but trust me, he lost his drivers license once and they took mine too (for six months!) It took a police investigation to prove there were actually two of us.

Brian
