Yes, the rainguard and objective covers are no good but the case I got with mine isn't the fuzzy "army blanket material" mentioned in the review, which I have seen on a second-hand pair. Mine have a much better "canvassy" type material which is actually good quality.
So if your buying, check what the case is like.

You'll definitely want to replace the covers though.
 
The problem with the covers is they tend to pull through the center attachment so one cover ends up obscuring a barrel. I find that if I tie a knot in the twine at the center this stops happening and they're quite useable. I'd rather they fix the rainguard first.
