Inland birding is hard work!!
Hi everyone

I am hoping you might be able to help me?!?! I am hopefully going to Poland in May and plan on Spending 3days in the Forest area and 3/4 days in the wetands. Do you think this is enough time to see alot of the good stuff?

I am really hoping people might be able to help me out on hotels and any contact details for these. Particularly the hotels in the Forest area. I have heard Hotel IWA mentioned but can't seem to find details for it? Or any places to stay in the forest. Particularly cheaper options!

Hope you can help.

Jon

Hope it's long enough - we're doing a long weekend (arriving Thur night, leaving Mon afternoon) mid-May, and are attempting to visit both areas!

Accom still to be booked, but will post as and when I get anywhere sussed - if others have suggestions in the meantime I'll be looking on with interest.

Just in case of interest, there's a big newish thatched hotel Mansion Soplicowo on the outskirts of the town now used by a number of the bird tour companies- but it is at the 3 or 4 star end of the scale, as is the BestWestern Hotel Zubrowka there. Hotel Bialowieski is cheaper.

There are many hotels in Bialowieza, and plenty of houses offering cheap boarding/bed and breakfast, so it is easy to find something to suit your budget, not really necessary to book in my experience. The Biebrza area is bigger and the hotels scattered, I have always visited it on a day basis (only three hours from my door), so can't really comment. Three days at each is more than ample to do both localities in depth, you're certainly in for a good time (just as an indication, I have on occasion driven from here, done both places and returnd the same days, yet still seen virtually all the specialities - a long day, perhaps not the best way to do it, but just shows three days is going to be super). I will be there at least one weekend this spring, probably in April sometime, so will update if still needed.

1. Yes

2. Plenty of farms in both places run B&B rooms. In Bialowieza, it looks like every house along the main street has some. Try e.g.:

When I have car, I usually take smaller farm away from main organised tour glut in villages of Bialowieza, Osowiec & Wizna.

Remembers me last May, when after owl trip in Bialowieza, I driven at midnight to Biebrza and tried to find pre-booked room in some totally black, remote village consisting of 10 scattered and not numbered houses. I was pretty sure I will be chased with dogs, but nice room was waiting.
