Nest on Patio (1 Viewer)

Hi,

We have a nest with two hatched babies up in the under side of our patio umbrella. It is about 10-12 feet away from our BBQ. We have not been using the table so not to disturb the family. Does anyone know if we use the BBQ, will it be an issue for the babies?

Thanks,
Hungry for some BBQ

Hi, welcome to BF
Doubt if the fire, smoke, etc., would put the female off but the close proximity of activity could be problematic. What I'm assuming to be Anna's can be fairly tolerant, but it's a huge gamble with high stakes to find out. Worst case would be abandonment of the nest by the adult female.

Once hatched there will be about 20 days spent as nestlings before fledging, if that's any consolation towards your appetite. Have to respect the amount of effort put forth by the adult female building the nest. On average, it requires 5 to 7 days, with about 40 sorties an hour for materials.
