Godwit, October, Obidos Lagoon, Portugal (1 Viewer)

Hi,

This godwit puzzled me. The black tail makes me think Black-tailed Godwit (Limosa limosa) - but the bag still seems to have some patterns and does not look uniformly grey which I would expect from the books.

It was seen mid last October in Obidos Lagoon in Portugal.

Can it be confirmed to be black-tailed and not bar-tailed based on these pics?

Best, Peter

Hi Peter,

Your bird can be confirmed as a Bar-tailed Godwit. The black you refer to is on the primary feathers. On the middle picture you can just see the barring on the tail (below the black).
