Hope someone can help......

I'm on the verge of buying a video camera and would really appreciate some advice from someone who uses this type of kit to film birds. (first child on the way in a few weeks so a dual use really!)

I've looked at hard drive cameras and these seem favourite at the moment.
I need to be able to get decent stills, a good long charge period, a good zoom, as well as functionality with an Apple Mac.

Has anyone used a particular brand? Any advice gratefully received?

One to avoid is the Samsung VP-D353 digital camcorder. This holds a charge like a colander holds water. The stills pictures are just about acceptable. Having said that the video is quite good.
