Are these all winter birds, Mike? Can you give us an idea of what kind of place Sandy Ridge is? ... Got a bit of water, obviously...

Hey Charles,

You have been away too long...
Most of them are winter birds, especially the ducks. The Great Egret, Tree Swallows, Killdeer, Phoebe, Turkey Vulture, Blue Heron and Snipe, are a few migratory birds, that were such a pleasure to see again. Sandy Ridge is a relatively new nature preserve. About 5 or 6 years old. I think it used to be a farmers field. The good people of Lorain county, filled it with water, and made some real nice marsh habitat. I'm not very good at judging the size of areas, so all I can say is...it's big. To reach the marsh, you have to take a trail that winds through some woods. On either side of the marsh, there are still some old fields. This makes for a lot of different habitat. With this and being only a few miles from the Lake Erie shore, the birding is amazing...
