ID Fledgling grey down, long beak? (1 Viewer)

Hi, found this fledgling by the road today, and placed him next to the closest tree. Curious what type of bird it is. I found the long beak and yellow strings hanging from his feathers unusual. Also, when I got close to it, it would flap its wing at me and chomp its beak.

Would appreciate if anyone could ID this bird in the photo. I live in Walnut CA, not walnut creek

The straggly yellow bits are normal - we had a young woodpigeon in our garden this year and was exactly the same.

You can see some of the stages of development in a baby pigeon here which shows this quite well.

Thanks, we have lots of doves in our area, so I suppose that's what it is, do you know what the yellow strings are?

Part of the early, very young structures covering the body which are mainly hidden by the proper growing feathers which are replacing them I think.

Look closely and you'll see that they are actually under the feathers.
