Warbler? S.France July (1 Viewer)

Whitethroat for me (or at least one of the southern European Sylvia spp., having got the wrong one on a recent thread with a Subalp!!). Not a Stonechat.

Thanks Peter for clarifying, but this is pretty much where I'm at.

It can't be a Stonechat, though I can see the superficial resemblance to one, mainly due to an unfortunate shadow across the side of the head.

Stonechat would have a streaky back/rump, white flashes in the inner greater coverts, and a shorter tail.

It's a sylvia sp. and Whitethroat seems to be the best fit with that rufous wing flash on the tertials/secondaries, and based on location. What's more-it even looks like one!

Well, I'm sort of undecided as of yet.....
Neither one is a perfect fit to me, so that's why I hoped more images might settle the matter.

This is one mother of a confusing image! Legs look Stonechatty and head and bill as well as overall shape. If it wasn't for the apparent chestnutty tones of the wing I'd swear it was a Stonechat - what a camera can do to a bird ;)
