Had a trip across the border today to do a spot of birding at Leighton Moss.Went down to the Allen Pools and got quite a shock when I got there,no water from the Allen hide(see pic) and not a lot more from the Eric Morecambe hide.Despite this there was a good selection of waders about,Snipe,Redshank,Dunlin,Ringed Plover and Little Stint a rather tatty looking Common Buzzard flew around with a couple of Ravens and a Merlin was perched on a fence post in the opposite field.A trip down to Jenny Brown's Point to eat lunch and watch the incoming tide produced a flock of around eighteen Greenshank feeding furiously on the edge of the incoming water with a Whimbrel among the 100's of Oystercatchers
Not too bad a day, managed to get 3 year ticks,Little Stint,Merlin and Whimbrel.Back to work tomorrow, but off down to Norfolk for a week next Saturday so shall be looking forward to that.
