Birding in Yorkshire West of Scarborough (1 Viewer)

Hi Everybody, My wife and I are going to spend time next week (Tues to Thursday) starting with Bempton Cliffs and then Flamborough Head.
We are intending to go up onto the North Yorkshire Moors west of Scarborough.
We sould be grateful for sites to visit! We would love to see Whinchat, Red Grouse etc.
Tips for a day's birding there would be most gratefully received!!

Wykeham Forest is pretty good and not very far from Scarborough, as is Forge Valley feeding station.
For both take the A170 road towards Pickering. On entering East Ayton look for signage showing right turn to Forge Valley. Follow the road until you reach the parking area for the feeding station. Marsh tit, nuthatch and great spotted woodpecker here.
Keep on the A170 to Wykeham and look for the turning to North Moor, take this and after roughly 4 miles you come to a sharp left hand turn the parking area for the raptor viewpoint is another hundred yards or so along here. There is a parking area at the left turn which has a small feeding station so can be good for passerines.
For red grouse try almost any of the roads running across the North Yorks Moors, you've a good chance on seeing them from the car.

Many thanks, Keith, for the reply. I remember going to Pickering, I think, for the Forest Drive. Is that worth a drive do you think? Also, do you know of any place nr Scarborough for Dipper or Grey Wagtail, all but non-existent in North Norfolk where we are based!

Kind regards
Paul
