Need a good Dragonfly book (1 Viewer)

Can anyone recomend a good book on UK Dragonflies please. Something with distribution maps, flight seasons and good pics would be a help.

There are a fair number of books around on Dragonflies these days compared to just a couple of decades ago. Try this link for a few titles:-

Distribution Maps should always be taken with a large pinch of salt. Many are based on data sets which may be many years old. For up to date information about what occurs in your area try contacting your local British Dragonfly County Recorder.

In the last decade there has been a rapid expansion in the range of many species of British Dragonflies. As an example, The Emperor Dragonfly A.imperator was confined to sites south of The Wash just 15 years ago, now it had crossed the Scottish Border and is breeding in all the counties on the east coast of England.

My personal favourite book is C.O.Hammonds, The Dragonflies of Great Britain and Ireland, 2nd Edition. It's not a handy pocket guide but the illustrations are large and of excellent quality but the distribution maps are well out of date. It was available in either hard or softback from Harley Books but it appears to be out of print at present.

You may find a copy by looking at www.abebooks.com or www.bookfinder.com

Edit. 3 copies of Hammonds book are available through abebooks.com only one is a second edition though priced at £25.00 + P&P in softback, described 'as new' Seller is 'Classey'
