ID from bad picture (1 Viewer)

There were quite a few of these at Flanders Moss, on the path and boardwalk. They were repeatedly jumping into the air. When we approached they retreated into shadow and only ran away when I tried to photograph them. We didn't see them fly at all. Sorry for the photo; I've only got a compact camera.

Indubitably a green tiger beetle (Cicindelidae). In UK there are only two green Cicindela species which can be differentiated on size. Surprising that they weren't flying - it's usually difficult to stop them.

Most likely if > 11mms long, otherwise the quite rare C. germanica which is not abundant and fairly localised near the S/SW coast. Lindroth states that C. germanica it, "... does not readily take to the wing.".

I think we need to bear in mind that yesterdays rarity may become more common (as well as vice versa)
