Mockingbird does "Wing Thing" -QT Video (1 Viewer)

I'm not sure what's going on here, but this mockingbird is opening and closing his wings very slowly and deliberately. It's quite charming actually. I have seen this action one other time a few weeks ago- but today I got it on tape- and it gives me pleasure to share it with the forum. This is a short vidette-1 minute, 2.2mb.

Also on the feeder during the evening watch, I saw 4 cowbirds at the same time- 2 males and 2 females. It's as if the were out on a double date. I got that on tape too but will wait until tomorrow to post that one- It's getting late.

Very cool, Alan. I wonder if it's a territorial defense display. Our white-breasted nuthatch starts doing something similar around the suet cake and peanut butter this time of year: clinging to the tree trunk, he opens both wings and weaves from side to side, like a snake charmer, trying to shoo off any other bird near *his* food. LOL! Here's what he looked like last year.

I'll bet you see some amazing behaviors as breeding season approaches. Can't wait to see others' antics! :t:

Nice pic there Katy- I'm looking forward to more antics too. I would rather look out the window at the birds than watch TV. They are just fascinating.
