Thanks Laurie....

Had a look around a few of the local sites today and only thing of note was a Common Sandpiper on the outfall wall on the causeway @ Lower Bittell.
It stayed a while for pics and then onto the grassy island before going over to the left past the reeds where it got shoved off by the Male Swan.It flew out into the middle and I lost it then.

Off to work in a bit so pics will have to be much later...

Keith :t:

p.s......a quick bit of processing on one pic....

Had a CUCKOO this afternoon.....no calling all afternoon and it was skulking around in the lower bushes/undergrowth so could it have been the Female.

This is a big crop but even on the original blown up I can not see the beast area.....the camera was on the tripod folded up as I was walking home so just glad to get a snap and I.D.

Mill Shrub - 2pm....dark,drab and dismal conditions and this is the best day of the week.
Had a strange little Duck today.Put it on the I,.D. forum and it a female Wood Duck.
Also something was swimming in the left corner and cant decide if its a Mammal or Reptile.....a very tiny bow wave hardly able to see it.

Lots of activity around the area with Green Woodpecker,Swallow,Goldfinch,
House Sparrow,Heron around top of Shrike field by canal. Also a Pair of Great Spotted Woodpeckers along the tow path.

Further afield lots of Skylark displaying and feeding (young maybe) in fields below Alvechurch.....had the Hare there again earlier in the week when it was even darker.
Just nice to get out after a dreadful week...even resorted to decorating....eek.

Thanks Matt...I didnt have any bins with me and this was all I could get for I.D.
Later I had a Vole type run across the road above the River 1/2 way up the causeway.....it was really long as against a mouse type.

No idea if Water Voles here but not likely as the water is not very healthy all year round.

More from below Alvechurch today.....before the sun came out for a bit.....
Saw 1st Swift over Redditch Road by Bordesley and the House Martins are back nesting.
A few nice Linnets,Wagtails as well.

Have been watching a family of Kings at Lower/mill shrub for the last 10 days or so.
All has settled down now after Dad was giving junior his marching orders the other night....back to usual fleeting glimpes.
Getting a few late evening Swifts most warm evenings with a couple Swallows around the Horse place up the hill.
Pair Grebes saw off a few floods and are sitting tight on nest withe Swan finally bringing 3 Cygnets out to show me....the other 2 eggs were unhatched..
Around the fields from the wider area a good colony of Common Blues are building up around Cofton....all this and trying to view about 6 patches means not a lit of time at each pkace...lol
Got a few snaps if anyone interested.

I wondered if you had any young KFs at Bittell - now I know thanks Keith!! Any photos? I can't find the one I saw on the R. Cole and not sure if the one on the Bourn has a mate. It was doing some of the fastest and hidden fishing I've ever seen.

The KINGS.............

Nice one Keith!!

The KINGS.............

Keith

Nice one Keith!!!!!!!!! - how many king fledgling broads have you seen at BR? I'm new to it and only recently saw my first king family outing, but now looking back realise I've seen the odd junior out and the chase. (also I am now tracking king fledgling dates but I'll probably be way out - but it's all part of the king experience!!)

I never keep dates - except vaguely in head .
They had a late brood last year and this one where Dad bought them for lessons.
I have seen them being chased on the Arrow a few years back as well.
Apart from that I am no use really....
Keith
