Quiet mid morning at Lower today...great morning though after all the misty miserable days.

Up to 10 Shoveller on Shrub Mill...in 2 groups. A fleeting spot of the Kingfisher and 2 Grey Wagtails along with the usual mixed Tits flocks going around the shrubs/trees.
A great coloured Red Admiral was liking all the Ivy with a Comma and lots of Speckled Woods flicking around.
As it warmed up the many dragons started to show.

Returned early evening in mixed light to see what came over on their way to roosting close by.

Spotted a bird on a dead tree on left hand bend of Lower (miles away) and though it interesting in bins so took a snap and sure it was a Hobby...but then a few mins later a Hobby was being chased by a Corvid from the other side and could still see the one in the tree so was surprised to find what I think is a pair (2) of Hobbies.......am I correct ...sorry about crap pics.

The usual loads of Gulls..Corvids..Herons and a few Cormorants flew over as well as a Pair of GSWoodpeckers and a Jay

Only one Grey Wagtail around and got this one through hole in hedge while lying in road......glad it was a bit quieter....lol

On way along the North Worc path down to the resa birds were darting out of the grasses as I put them up......crap light (as always) so could not tell what they were but got these snaps......

Other spots were a party of 8 Greylags I put up as I came back into the field after trying to explore along the NWpath.
On the hedges further north were Yellowhammer,Reed Bunting and Linnet along with the local Kestrel and Buzzard.
Back along the road just past the Church a Buzzard was in full view on a tree but as soon as I pointed the camera he flew off......
Then got the King at Lower before leaving.

Meadow Pipit - there's a lot on a move at the moment

Yes - both Hobbys; nice capture :t:

Thanks Phil for confirming my sightings......oh I forgot about a flock of finches whizzing around the middle/far end of Shrub Mill - must have been about 50.I got a fix on a Linnet but there were various species.Have had loads of Linnets up on the north fields for ages.

Thanks Opticron.

I have been without my bins for SO LONG and because of laziness/forgetfulness and being an old skinflint after I phoned OPTICRON months ago I never had them mended....BUT eventually I got around to it a couple of weeks ago.
This involved going through everything with the chap in the repairs section all over again...and we worked out the correct bits I needed and they forwarded just the right things.
He talked it through with me patiently and instead of being £20 for each eyepiece as we 1st thought he got the parts/price down to £13 for both with p and p included.
SORTED....

I just wanted to say how great it was to deal with them and also to the Birders Store from where I bought them who put me right and pointed me in the right direction at the start of this.

Cheers all......:t:

The Shovellers are still around and have been on Mill Shrub for a few days....only counted 6 at any time.
The Hobby has been feeding on Dragons all week.
Had 3 Grey Wagtails together on the overflow"ramp" today.

I particularly like the fish jumping photo. I will have to go to Bittell once I get back home at Christmas.

North fields

Not a lot happening around Lower and Shrub Mill this afternoon so had a quick walk around the North Fields before getting off for tea.

Got caught out without the camera ready on the driveway up to Cofton Richards by a Green Woodpecker on one of the telegraph posts and then by a Jay but nabbed the Jay just in the fields.

Lots of Starling on the wires at the back of the farm along with the odd Linnet.
All the hedges were full of Long Tailed and Blue Tits as I went around the field adjacent to the old barn.

The Male Kestrel was on the wires and dropping down now and then but did not catch anything. A Buzzard was soaring high over the Wood towards Groveley Lane and keeping above the Corvids.

Large flocks of linnets were now forming and as I walked around I kept putting them up with them landing in the hedges in front of me and then up again....eventually they went off towards the wood and just the odd one daring to pop up in front of me......and then a bit further along a male Stonechat did a classic pose for me....sodding light was crap though.
Will try and get over here a bit earlier and hopefully in better light and see if anything else pops up.

60-70 Grey Lags just flew off Upper into adjacent field...strange quietness with no birds on the hedges....only seen about 10 Linnet flying as well as the usual Kestrel.

1....One of the 8 over the top field.
2...The Greylags coming in.
3....Landing in the clover fields.

Spent an hour or so at Upper Bittell around midday today. 3 Common Gulls around (2 adults), 3 Shoveler, a few Redwing, Blackbirds & Mistle Thrush passing through and around, and 14 Lapwing over. Mixture of the usual waterfowl, gulls and passers including 1 Skylark over and a nice tick for me from a very viewable adult Yellow-legged Gull. (No sign of the Scoter though)
