More Wading Bird IDs Plz (1 Viewer)

Hi Dave,

It is still not easy for me to identify birds when they are in the same pose as the guides I have. But when they throw me a curve ball like this one did it is a real problem. I was trying out a new lens and got this image of the same bird (there is only one at the pond and he has been there for a couple of days).

It does not have real good IQ, but I love the pose.

Thanks, for the ID. I am still confused by IDs. Here is an image of a Greeh Heron I shot earlier when the weather was colder. The long neck in the second image of my first post threw me off

Thanks again.

All herons can fold up or extend their necks. The thing about the more compact herons like green herons and night herons, is that the folded neck is hidden by the feathers of the upper trunk, making it look like a short necked bird with a stocky chest. But then when they extend, they look like slim birds with long necks.

With the green heron in north america, there really is nothing else with that combination of colours.

Scott

p.s. Love the crazy pose in the last photo.
