Sketches from Andrew Ellis (1 Viewer)

Fantastic stuff Andy. I would get myself down to the gallery for a look but I don't think they'd let me in wearing my camo shorts and scrappy t-shirt!

Best of luck with the exhibition though. (Simon too.)

Mike

Mike Anyones welcome mate no matter what they are wearing!!

I am very happy to have (just now) found your sketches! I'm an artist based in NYC, sadly far away from your exhibition, but happily able to see some of your work here.

Well thankyou , for the connections you have given me to ,Two great artists. I was influenced by Reid Henry thats for sure. And now Lars has become one of my favorite artists. The piece you are talking of was after seeing a Gyr a few years back at cape Cornwall I think?? anyway influence wise that piece has heavy leanings towards Bateman if I'm honest.Just wanted to show the Harsh enviroment these fab Falcons seem to shrug off ! perfectly adapted for it.

Thankyou , and sorry about the distance problem but who knows maybe I'll have a show in New York at some point!! Its good to dream;)

What about rain forest birds ? What about all those fabulous raptors and pheasants simply waiting for you to be painted ? If you would include tropical forest scenes into your body of work and master them as well as your current topics, I swear you would easily become the most accomplished bird painter of your generation. And you'll have a New York show in no time !

All beauties! And I notice something in your work that I've seen before, including the flash paintings, but never really articulated. A really scintillating sense of value and value contrasts. Just makes everything pop. Don't be shy about posting more.

Amazing sketching Andrew! Your kingfishers are my favorite but they are a special bird to me.. :) fantastic work - Looking through makes me want to put the computer away and get out my sketch book!!

I'm with Keith....will have to reincarnate and start at the age of 3 to even begin to come close to this skill and art...

A good weekend!!

Just thought I'd post some sketches from last weekend when i and the family hit the Beach at Beesands Nr Kingsbridge. We had a lovely time and the kids had a blast. Soooooo Did I !! watching Sandwich Terns fishing just off the beach with their noisy interactions and best of all their activities attracted a beauty of an Arctic skua!! Yes!!! really made my day. Tim I know you see them allot where you are but this is my 2nd only individual . a light phased bird my first being a dark Phase. To top that on the way home stopped for a impromptu wee stop for little Maisie and as i got out of the car to let her out i just happened to look up and there above was a Hobby being mobbed by a group of not to happy Swallows! Moral of this story,.... Never stop looking up!

Always room for more in the SAS (Skua Appreciation Society), Adam ;) - But these are seriously good field drawings Andy, no one would believe you had only seen one skua before, such is the mastery of the bird's form - just perfectly done. The terns are bouyant and glowing with light, transporting the viewer to the sunny seaside. Hobby's a beaut - great shape and a lovely tale. One word of advice about looking up whilst young'uns are enjoying a wee - one's feet tend to get, erm - sprayed - as my too delight in reminding me as often as possible.
