Iberian Lynx in 2016 (1 Viewer)

Hi

I'll be spending a few days in the usual Andujar area at the end of the month looking for lynx. Have been previously in 2010 and 2011 so am familiar with the well-known (public) viewing locations.

The reason for posting is to see whether anyone has any update on the general situation in recent months - I know a couple of years ago rabbit numbers were down and lynx were struggling (and consequently sightings were far less reliable than previously).

I've not seen many updates since (possibly because most interested folk have already been and seen their lynx several years ago), so wondered if things have improved?

Any updates welcome (especially if they feature good news |=)|)

Cheers
Andy

Hope it went well. If I'd seen this sooner, I could have referred you. My birding guide in the area co-authored a study and conservation plan on the Iberian Lynx.

Cat in the bag!

We did indeed score brief but close views on the last morning - thanks for earlier comments and sorry for not reporting back before (cheers James for doing so on my behalf).

If anyone wants any further details do let me know.

Cheers
Andy

I'm planning 4-5 days in Spain in June with a couple of birding pals. We're thinking of Extremadura but we'd like to see Lynx and I see most visitors go to Sierra du Andujar in Andalucia for these, which seems some way away.

Should we reconsider our base or could we get Lynx in Extremadura? What about at that time of year? We've yet to check out best sites for the speciality birds (and none of us have been before) so would appreciate advice on the best itinerary. It's obviously a short trip so we don't want to be travelling for half the duration.

At some point I'll look at some trip reports but I know the others want to book accommodation pretty sharpish.

Cheers for help
