Jackdaws and a thatched roof (1 Viewer)

The National Trust are trying to find a way to stop jackdaws stripping a renovated thatched roof on one of their properties.

Re the decoy falcon: couldn't the NT obtain the services of a local falconer and ask him to exercise his bird(s) in this area on a daily basis. If the jackdaws are as clever as stated, they'll realise their lives are in danger - perhaps!!

On a Cornish farm where my parents and I had a holiday in Spring over 60 years ago, they discouraged Jackdaws by putting a well-fed house cat on the thatched roof. The cat snoozed most of the day away, but no Jackdaws risked landing there. In the evening, the cat was easy to tempt down by the offer of a snack.

Farm cats were too wild to catch, let alone put on the roof!
