Phew..............
Help a toad to cross the road.......
Volunteers are needed to help hundreds of toads cross two dangerous roads in Clevedon to reach ditches where they breed. The amphibians are spending the winter on land and in dense woodland in the Nortons Wood Lane and Moor Lane areas. But as the weather gets warmer between now and March, hundreds will run the risk of being run over to cross the highways and make for the water-filled ditches. To help to preserve the local toad population, people are needed to pick them up and carry them safely across the road to the ditches. Dorothy Wright, a local parish wildlife warden, is undertaking the training of volunteers. She said: "The toads will be migrating to their breeding grounds during mild, damp evenings in January through to early March."
