vortex viper HD 8X32 vs vortex viper 8X32 (1 Viewer)

Hi, I'm fairly new to birding and I'm looking for a midsize to compact binocular that is easy to travel with. I'm strongly leaning towards the vortex viper 8x32. I'm looking in the $550(US$) or less price range. I was wondering if anyone has tried the new 2011 HD viper 8x32 model vs the slightly older viper 8x32 model and/or any other binocular that you might think is better? Any thoughts, opinions or reviews would be helpful. Thanks.

It's hard to find them in the stores to test, but always go for the HD if it is not more than 20-30% more in price.
