Zoom eyepiece vs zoom lens (1 Viewer)

Hi, I posed this question in a scope post but maybe here it will receive more feedback from digiscopers.

Maybe a bit silly, but what do you think could give better results for digiscoping, a good zoom eyepiece with a prime lens, or a fixed eyepiece with a good zoom lens?

A fixed eyepiece is designed to do one thing and usually they do that much better than a zoom. A zoom has much more glass and this will degrade the image more so than a fixed, as does the fact it's trying to provide an image over a wide range of magnification. There may be points over the zoom where it digiscopes well and others where it doesn't. In most cases a good quality fixed eyepiece will be better.

Paul.
