GREEN SANDPIPERS on Migration
Here at Upton Warren in Worcestershire, we regularly get good totals of Green Sands on migration during Autumn.
The first birds start arriving in mid June, when the females arrive. Numbers build up when the males start arriving and finally juveniles in late July August. If the feeding conditions are good, then the adults will remain and undergo a partial wing moult. Augmented by the juveniles, the numbers peak in August. This year so far we have reached 18 (14th Aug). My question is : how many green sands are there out there. Has anybody got larger numbers on their patch. John |

Only a slight build up on my patch(Hythe Lagoons) in Essex, with 7/8 today. We don't get anywhere near the numbers of 10 years ago when there'd regularly be 20+ with my highest count being 52. Although to be fair we get bugger all waders nowadays.
